Economics, Management & Society

Disruptive engineering requires the development of innovative design theories and methods, the mobilization of cooperative ecosystems involving companies, users and public players, and the creation of new business and public governance models.

In this field, research at Mines Paris – PSL reconciles academic excellence with relevance for users.

It is organized within the Institut interdisciplinaire de l’innovation around 4 strategic axes:

  • industrial economics ;

  • management sciences ;

  • sociology of innovation.

This department comprises 4 research centers and one institute. It is headed by François Levêque.

CGS

Centre de Gestion Scientifique (Scientific Management)

A pioneering laboratory in its field, its work has contributed to significant advances (theory of management tools, complex production systems, collective learning theory, new models of public action, research-intervention methods, etc.), as well as clarifying the place of management sciences in the sciences as a whole and in modern culture.

Its works helps to shed light on the major transformations taking place in companies and organizations. In particular, through design theory, whose potential applications include product and process innovation, innovative research and the design of new business models.

CSI

Centre de sociologie de l’innovation (sociology of innovation)

A laboratory associated with the CNRS. It studies how knowledge and innovation are formed and transform our societies.

Recent work has been structured around three main themes:

  • formats of technical democracy: social experimentation, public debate and the making of collectives ;
  • the making of the economy: socio-technical devices, economics and management sciences, and performativity
  • the constitution of individuals and collectives: mediation, attachments and forms of experience.

CRC

Centre de recherche sur les risques et les crises (risks & crisis)

Its work contributes to the formalization and unification of knowledge intended for organizations, and more particularly companies, wishing to reduce their vulnerabilities and increase their resilience capacities in the face of particularly disruptive and damaging events (major technological accident, workplace accident, occupational illness, natural and environmental hazards, project risks, operational risks…).

The center mobilizes the multidisciplinary scientific expertise of its researchers (engineering sciences, ergonomics, sociology, management, geography, law, psychology, IT, etc.).
