Master Sustainable Mining with the MS® MIRIS Program

The MS® MIRIS (Advanced Master Program in Mineral Resources and Extractive Industries Management) is designed to empower professionals in the mining and quarrying industries to sustainably integrate mining projects. Covering all phases—from exploration to production and post-mining operations—this program focuses on aligning projects with both physical and social environments.

By enrolling in the MS® MIRIS, you will become a responsible professional in the mineral resources sector, equipped to tackle global industry challenges and drive sustainable practices in mining.

Key features of the MS® MIRIS program include:

  • Sustainability Focus: Emphasizes minimizing environmental and social impacts through collaboration with local stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive Curriculum: Offers a series of modules led by an international team of industry experts and renowned researchers.
  • Practical and Theoretical Insights: Blends real-world applications with academic knowledge to address contemporary challenges in sustainable mining.

Theoretical and Practical Training Covering All Technical Aspects

The program is structured into three comprehensive parts, beginning with a 7-month intensive teaching phase. This phase includes a core curriculum and three specialized options:

1. Open-pit and Underground Mining Operations
This option delves into the technical and operational aspects of surface and underground mining. Key topics include geomechanics, water management, deposit modeling, and resource assessment. The curriculum covers practical elements such as blasting techniques, equipment fleet sizing, mining balances, and risk management. A dedicated workshop, “From Prospecting to Mining”, bridges theory and practice, complemented by technical visits to real-world mining operations.

2. Exploration and Deposit Modeling
This option focuses on advanced exploration techniques and deposit modeling, integrating geostatistics, resource evaluation, and geological uncertainty analysis. Students learn to model and assess deposits, ensuring accurate resource planning for future extraction.

3. Mineral Processing and Upgrading
This module covers the entire spectrum of mineral beneficiation and processing, from the characterization of the mineral/water interface to advanced processing techniques. Topics include resource modeling, mineral raw materials exploitation, recycling, and advanced case studies in mineral processing. This option emphasizes sustainable resource management, including the optimization of processes to maximize material recovery and efficiency.
