[Seminar] Economic expertise and environmental action | Sovereign futures

Ecological transition Research Science and society Hybrid
29 March

The “Models and Biodiversity” session by Mathilde Salin and Klaudia Prodani will take place on Friday March 29, 2024 at Mines Paris – PSL as part of the “Economic Expertise and Environmental Action” seminar.

Theme:

This seminar focuses on the study of the production and mobilization of economic knowledge in the way it informs or prescribes forms of intervention in environmental action.

Economics seems to be omnipresent in environmental action. But how is economic expertise produced and mobilized in practice? And to what extent do environmental issues challenge and renew approaches to economics?

This interdisciplinary seminar (sociology, anthropology, history, economics, political science) seeks to map and analyze the political qualities of various economic knowledge and techniques geared towards public action. Emphasis will be placed on the ways in which actors seek to act on environmental issues by problematizing them using economic concepts, or by devising devices to transform the behavior of actors (citizens, companies, states) in the face of environmental problems, or by challenging economic or non-economic problematizations already stabilized in the public arena.

For this session, we have invited Mathilde Salin and Klaudia Prodani to present their work, followed by a collective discussion, for a total duration of 2 hours.
