The Fontainebleau Mines Paris – PSL library invites you to discover its new virtual exhibition “Like snow in the sun: glaciers, witnesses to the climate.”

exhibition presents various aspects of the study of ice. From yesterday to today, it retraces a veritable human, scientific and artistic adventure.

Studied since the 19th century, ice is a precious indicator of climate and its evolution over geological time. They are also a valuable source of information on future developments.

From the 18th century onwards, they featured prominently in the picturesque iconography of mountain travelogues, and aroused the interest of scientists in their mysterious fluctuations.

The exhibition retraces the beginnings of glaciology and its contribution to knowledge of the climate through a selection of books, archives, maps and works of art on polar and mountain expeditions, all from the collections of Mines Paris – PSL. It also showcases the Centre de Géosciences’ most recent work on paleoclimatology.
