18th SIG Design Theory Paris workshop

École des Mines Paris – PSL will be hosting the 18th SIG Design Theory Paris workshop.

 

About the workshop

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE:

We welcome contributions in the areas of Design Theory SIG:

1- Design Theory and other disciplines: AI, cognition, engineering sciences, data science, biology, physics…

2- The value of design theory for practitioners

3- Design theory and education

4- Design theory and the theory of perception: reception and criticism of design, identity of objects

5- Design theory and the economics of design

ORGANISATION OF THE WORKSHOP

Different types of sessions will take place over the first two days (9am-6pm):

1) Substantive presentations (45mn-1h) of current research in GIS research areas

2) Round tables and/or open discussions on new approaches and emerging issues

3) Special sessions will be organised to facilitate sub-group meetings on special topics or to discuss new research plans that could benefit from the cooperation of several GIS members and lead to new ideas and co-publications.

Building on the work done in previous workshops, we will have special parallel sessions to discuss the following four topics:

– Design theory and creation in philosophy and culture

– Design theory and Artificial Intelligence

– Design theory, cognition and psychology

– Design theory and management

Final programme and timetable: The chairs of the SIGs will draw up the final programme, taking into account the suggestions and proposals received from participants. Registration and workshop submission are detailed below.

Anyone wishing to participate, please register before 24 January 2025 (participation is free, students are welcome).

Submission for the WORKSHOP

For those wishing to present their work or suggest topics for discussion, please submit (via the https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org/submission/submit platform) a short abstract (no more than two pages) or an article (published or unpublished). The deadline for submissions is 15 November 2024.

PRACTICES, LOCATION and COSTS

Mines Paris – PSL (Ecole des Mines), 60 boulevard Saint Michel, Paris 75006, FRANCE.

Mines Paris is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter of Paris, close to the Panthéon, the Sorbonne University and the Luxembourg Gardens. It is very easy to get to our school as it is only 50 m from the Luxembourg metro station (RER).

Participation in the workshop is free. The Bauhaus Chair for Transitions at Mines Paris – PSL will finance the organisation and the breaks and lunches during the workshop. There will be a cocktail party for all participants on the evening of Monday 3 May.

In addition, the Chairman will cover the speakers’ accommodation costs for 2 nights.

Travel and accommodation expenses: all participants who are not presenters are expected to cover their own expenses. A list of hotels in the Mines Paris – PSL area can be provided.
