PSL University and its constituent institutions are warning about budget cuts and increases in expenses planned in the budgets of the departments responsible for higher education and research. These cuts, repeated year after year, directly threaten the country’s ability to remain a scientific and technological power at a time when international competition is at its strongest on issues that are fundamental to the future.

Universities play a major role. The data is clear: more than 70% of strategic technologies (AI, quantum, health, engineering sciences, etc.) now come from civilian laboratories, and 80% of publications on quantum technology are produced by university teams. Universities are strategic players in the innovation economy: they create deep tech start-ups, support strategic sectors, and train the talent essential to our autonomy. Not to mention their crucial role in intellectual, creative, and cultural dynamism, in the broadest sense, to which our fellow citizens are very attached. Public investment in youth education is also crucial to the long-term growth of economies.
