Godefroy Beauvallet has been appointed General Manager of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris by the President of the Republic, at the proposal of the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, by decree dated August 5, 2024. He succeeds Vincent Laflèche, who retired in April, and Michel Schmitt, who was acting General Manager.

Since 2017, Godefroy Beauvallet has been HR director for the Corps des Mines at the General Council for the Economy, Industry, Technology and Energy, and Chairman of AFNIC (Association française pour le nommage Internet en coopération). He is also a visiting professor at Télécom Paris, and a member of the boards of directors of the Ecole polytechnique and the Institut national de l’audiovisuel (INA). Passionate about innovation and digital technology, he has published several books and numerous academic articles, notably on the uses of digital technology in the public sector and in politics, as well as on lean management.

I’m proud and delighted to be joining the Ecole des Mines, at a key moment in its development and that of the Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) university. The expectations and opportunities are great, both nationally and internationally. Together with all the professors, researchers, staff and partners of the school and of an ecosystem exceptional for its quality and commitment, I will strive to foster the intellectual development of students, the fruitful originality of research, the shared success of innovation, and the pleasure of collective commitment, which have guided me in all my positions. I’m looking forward to meeting students, teachers, researchers, employees and all the partners – especially industrial and academic – of the École, Armines and PSL, so that together we can continue the work accomplished under the leadership of Vincent Laflèche and Michel Schmitt. Together, we will strive to meet these challenges with passion.

Godefroy Beauvallet has held a number of positions in the world of higher education and research, including Director of the AXA Research Fund (2011-15), Director of Innovation at Institut Mines Télécom (IMT, 2015-16) and Director of Strategy and Financial Affairs at Institut Télécom (2007-11), where he took part in the prefiguration of IMT and chaired Télécom Valorisation SAS. He began his career in the academic world as a lecturer in management at Télécom Paris.

He also served as director of the cabinet of Christophe Sirugue, Secretary of State for Industry, the Digital Economy and Innovation, and as deputy director of the cabinet of Michel Sapin, Minister of the Economy and Finance in 2016-17. He was Vice-Chairman of the French National Digital Council from 2013 to 2016.

Godefroy Beauvallet began his career in the fields of digital innovation and public funding for innovation, at Gemplus (now Thalès), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Post and Telecommunications Directorate of the State Secretariat for Industry, the Interministerial Technical Support Mission for the Development of New Information and Communication Technologies, and then the office of the Minister for the Civil Service and State Reform (2000-02).

Godefroy Beauvallet is a graduate of Ecole polytechnique (X91) and Telecom Paris. He is Ingénieur général des Mines.
