Biography

Shenle Pan is a Full Professor (holding Habilitation and Engineering Degree) in logistics and supply chain management at MINES Paris, PSL University, France. He serves as Co-Director of the Physical Internet Chair and Associate Head of the Center for Management Science. Since 2010, he has led/co-led over 20 research projects funded by EU programs (HE, H2020, FP7), French national programs (ANR, PIA, ADEME), and industry partners. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and guest-edited six special issues in leading academic journals. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Transportation Research Part E and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing. His research focuses on sustainable and resilient logistics and supply chains, the Physical Internet, and smart city logistics, with methodological expertise in Operations Research, data analytics, AI-driven decision-making, and semantics and digital twins. His contributions have earned multiple best paper and project awards, and he was included in the 2024/2025 Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists. He also regularly serves as a reviewer for academic journals and as an evaluator for research proposals across various countries and regions.

Production and Logistics Systems

Course Director

The course is divided into three main sections. First, the course addresses major strategic and tactical decisions in production management: sourcing choices; capacity-related decisions; and production organization. The course then covers the principles of production planning and scheduling. Finally, the last part of the course is devoted to just-in-time approaches (kanban, etc.), quality, and supply chain management. The course is taught by faculty members from Mines Paristech, as well as by industry experts and high-level consultants.

Sustainable Logistics

The course is divided into three main parts: First, the course examines the current structure of logistics networks, as well as the trends and environmental challenges posed by these largely essential activities. The course then explores alternative organizational models and focuses on the interconnection of logistics networks as a means of overcoming certain current conflicts. Finally, the last part of the course is devoted to examining the implications of this new approach for various aspects of logistics networks: material handling, information systems, inventory management, network design, business models, and intermediation platforms.

Production and Logistics Systems (PLS) track

In the second year: Introduction to Production Systems and Logistics: MP14 course, November ATHENS session – S3; Hands-on exploration of production systems and logistics: a 2-week pre-track program in February consisting of lectures, presentations by experts, and themed visits (Airbus, Amazon, Carrefour, FM Logistic, General Electric, La Poste, Louis Vuitton, Pomona, Renault-Nissan…) – S4. In the third year: In-depth study of production systems and logistics: a month-long elective in October consisting of one week on planning, one week on simulation, one week on operational excellence and sustainable development, and one week of an industrial field assignment abroad (2014: Brazil; 2015: Thailand; 2016: China) – S5. Applied training in logistics assessment: 2 weeks in January alternating between applied training on the automotive industry standard Global MMOG/LE and its practical implementation at an industrial site – S6. In-depth study of the global supply chain: ES S9816, block 4D – S6. Elective Project – S6. Specific Features of the Track: The SPL track in the third year consists of: a period of classes and lectures (1/3 of the time), industrial visits (1/3 of the time), and a team-based logistics audit at companies (1/3 of the time). This educational progression prepares students for the elective project and the elective internship. It has the same duration as the other electives (a one-week vacation make-up in January) but runs continuously from late March to late June, which may allow for internships abroad during the third year
