Biography
Lionel Freire is a researcher specializing in the study of additive manufacturing processes and polymer materials, particularly semi-crystalline polymers such as polyamide-12 (PA12). His work focuses on the multiphysical modeling of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) processes, incorporating thermal, mechanical, and phase-transition phenomena. He has developed advanced numerical frameworks to simulate the complex interactions between heat, crystallization, and deformations, with a particular focus on boundary conditions and meshing strategies to optimize the accuracy of part-scale simulations. His research also examines the influence of processing parameters, such as preheating temperature, on the dimensional accuracy and final properties of the manufactured components. At the same time, he explores the crystallization kinetics and densification behaviors of semi-crystalline polymers, contributing to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying forming processes such as injection molding and additive manufacturing.
