Biography

Jacques Besson is a researcher specializing in materials mechanics and the modeling of fracture and damage mechanisms. His work focuses primarily on the study of ductile fracture mechanisms, the influence of hydrogen on the mechanical properties of steels, and the development of advanced numerical models to predict material behavior under complex loads. His research incorporates experimental approaches, such as X-ray tomography and fractography, as well as finite element simulations, particularly using extended Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) models, which have been extended to account for the effects of triaxiality, strain rate, and environmental inhibition. Jacques Besson has also contributed to the analysis of the effects of scale, anisotropy, and microstructural interactions on material strength, with applications in the fields of energy, transportation, and nuclear reactors.
