Biography
Didier Torny is a researcher in the sociology of science and health, whose work focuses on the analysis of scientific controversies, evaluation mechanisms, and the production of knowledge in institutional contexts. His research explores, in particular, the mechanisms by which health risks are recognized, as evidenced by his in-depth study of diethylstilbestrol (DES), an endocrine disruptor whose transgenerational effects were long downplayed in France. He also examines the infrastructure of scientific communication by analyzing the evolution of editorial processes, bibliometric tools, and publication policies, particularly in the context of open science. His expertise thus covers the dynamics of the production of ignorance, the challenges of peer review, and the transformations in models of knowledge dissemination, with a particular focus on the power asymmetries and epistemic biases that underlie them.
