Museum exhibition: “Minerals in Minecraft”

Mines Paris – PSL is organizing a small exhibition in the permanent gallery of its Mineralogy Museum, presenting various minerals and rocks used in the famous video game Minecraft. This mini-exhibition is being held in the main hall of the museum, and begins on the same day as the preview of the new Minecraft, The Movie, on April 1, 2025.
The exhibition allows visitors to discover the extent to which Minecraft reflects the reality of the minerals and materials that surround us. Visitors explore the similarities and differences between the game and the real world, providing scientific insight for players and the curious alike. For although Minecraft is based on principles inspired by reality, its simplified mechanics do not always accurately reflect the properties and uses of materials in our world.
Get ready for a journey between fiction and reality, where the pixelated blocks of Minecraft meet the real minerals that make up our planet!
From Minecraft to the Earth’s hidden treasures
Dive into the fascinating world of minerals through the famous pixelated blocks of Minecraft! This mini-exhibition offers a fun introduction to mineralogy by combining the virtual world of the game with real treasures from nature.
In the heart of the museum, in a 70m² space, twelve display cases reveal a selection of specimens: around forty minerals, rocks, meteorites and gems echo the iconic blocks of Minecraft.
But the adventure doesn’t end there! Each theme presented will guide you to other samples scattered throughout the gallery, inviting you to explore the world of rocks and minerals even further.
Discover the brilliant sparkles of gems such as emeralds and diamonds from the depths of the Earth, and look up to infinity with the fascinating meteorites, messengers from space.
