Biography

Assaad Zoughaib is a researcher specializing in industrial energy efficiency, process decarbonization, and the integration of sustainable energy systems. His work focuses on optimizing industrial networks, particularly through exergetic analysis, dynamic modeling, and multi-period integration of resources such as hydrogen, waste heat, and water. He develops advanced methodologies, such as mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models, to design industrial eco-parks (EIPs) that incorporate synergies among stakeholders and macroeconomic constraints (CO₂ markets, RFNBO regulations). His research also addresses energy conversion technologies, such as high-temperature heat pumps, thermal membrane distillation, and passive radiative coatings, using a systems-based approach that combines energy, economic, and environmental analyses. His expertise extends to the modeling of heat exchangers, gas turbines, and heat recovery systems, with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the industrial and energy sectors.

ATHENS - MP30 - Life Cycle of Energy Systems

Guest Lecturer

The course alternates formal lectures on the various aspects of the life cycle—technical, economic, and ecological—with project-based sessions led by practitioners. In this way, the concepts introduced gradually are applied through case studies in workshops. The course therefore requires fairly intensive work concentrated over the course of one week. Feedback from previous years confirms this.
