Biography
Dennis Rickert is a researcher specializing in industrial economics and market organization, with particular expertise in the analysis of anticompetitive behavior and vertical structures. His work focuses in particular on the impact of upstream cartels on retail prices, as well as the effects of mergers and vertical contracts in the retail sector. His empirical research, often centered on specific cases such as the coffee cartel in Germany or mergers in the retail sector, explores price transmission mechanisms and coordination strategies among economic actors. He is also interested in the methodological implications for competition authorities, particularly regarding the definition of relevant markets and the assessment of restrictive practices.

Industrial Economics
The course covers the following topics: Nature of the firm and firm heterogeneity; Market entry, location, and product positioning strategies; Pricing strategy and product lines; Mergers and acquisitions and antitrust regulation; Network industries and regulation; Platforms and the digital economy Each session covers theoretical foundations, case studies, and exercises. One session at the beginning of the course is devoted to the presentation of a case study to be completed by students in teams. Students must analyze a strategic decision selected from current events (merger, acquisition, capacity investment, launch of a new product or service, etc.)
