Biography

Georges Kariniotakis is a researcher specializing in energy systems and the integration of renewable energy. His work focuses on the optimization of power grids, the modeling of distributed energy resources, and the application of advanced machine learning methods to improve decision-making in electricity markets. His research addresses key challenges such as probabilistic forecasting, managing uncertainties associated with intermittent energy sources, and the joint optimization of hybrid sources (hydro, wind, and solar). He also explores innovative approaches such as decision-focused learning to align predictive models with the operational objectives of grid operators. His contributions include distributed methodologies for the co-optimization of energy auctions, cost-effective predictive control strategies for virtual power plants, and solutions that preserve data privacy in collaborative systems. His work is based on open benchmarks and empirical validations, aiming to balance technical performance, industrial feasibility, and resilience in the face of the uncertainties inherent in modern energy systems.
