Biography

Jean-Luc Bouvard is a professor at the Institut Mines-Télécom at Mines Paris – PSL and conducts his research activities at the Centre de mise en forme des matériaux (CEMEF). He has been the head of the Surface and Polymer team since 2024.

His research focuses on the experimental characterization and numerical modeling of the thermomechanical behavior, damage, and fracture of polymer and composite materials. He notably develops multi-scale approaches to establish relationships between manufacturing processes, microstructures, and the mechanical properties of materials.

His work concerns amorphous and semi-crystalline polymers, recycled materials, fiber composites, vitrimers, and cellular materials. These applications span recycling and the circular economy, transportation, aeronautics, packaging, and the energy transition, particularly in improving the durability of photovoltaic modules.

Strongly involved in collaborative research and research-based training, Jean-Luc Bouvard has supervised or co-supervised 18 PhD students and 13 postdoctoral researchers. He is the author of 56 international scientific publications. He also contributes to the teaching at Mines Paris – PSL, notably through the MECAERO engineering module and the IMPROVE research trimester.
