Biography

Edi Assoumou is a researcher specializing in the analysis of energy systems and their transition to sustainable models. His work focuses primarily on the environmental assessment of digital infrastructure, particularly data centers and their energy consumption related to artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. He explores the carbon impacts of these systems using life cycle assessment (LCA) approaches, incorporating technical, economic, and regional dimensions. His research also extends to the prospective modeling of energy systems, with a focus on the integration of renewable energy, the decarbonization of electricity mixes, and the geopolitical challenges associated with green hydrogen trade between Europe and North Africa. Using tools such as the TIMES and eTIMES models, he analyzes optimal pathways to achieving carbon neutrality, while taking into account technical, spatial, and socioeconomic constraints. His contributions include studies on the implications of climate change for electric power systems, as well as methodologies for assessing the interactions between energy demand, generation, and grid stability.
