Fontainebleau Campus
Located near the Château de Fontainebleau, the Fontainebleau campus is a key hub for Mines Paris – PSL. Since 1967, it has contributed to the School’s scientific reputation by combining academic excellence with outreach to the public.
It brings together research, education, and science outreach activities in an environment deeply rooted in Earth sciences, environmental sciences, and complex systems.
A historic site
Rooted in the history of environmental science

Since 1967, the Fontainebleau campus has gradually established itself as a leading center for Earth and environmental sciences. Its establishment reflects a commitment to creating a dedicated space for the study of natural systems and subsurface resources (minerals, rocks, water, energy, storage), in direct connection with industrial, energy, and environmental challenges.
Historically, the site has developed around fundamental disciplines such as geology, modeling of complex systems, and process engineering, gradually integrating more interdisciplinary approaches: computational science, applied mathematics, and environmental sciences. This evolution parallels the growing prominence of issues related to ecological and energy transitions.
Today, the campus serves as an interface between basic and applied research. It contributes to the generation of knowledge applied in industrial, environmental, and societal contexts, in collaboration with the academic and industry partners of Mines Paris – PSL.
Research
Five centers and a leading institute
The Fontainebleau campus is home to several research units and a training institute, covering a wide range of disciplines:
- Geosciences
- Center for Statistics and Imaging (STIM)
- Center for Energy, Environment, and Processes (CEEP – Process Thermodynamics Team – CTP)
- Center for Computer Science Research (CRI)
- Higher Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management (ISIGE)
These units conduct research at the intersection of basic science and industrial applications, addressing contemporary environmental and technological challenges.

Education
An academic program grounded in research

The campus contributes to the academic programs at Mines Paris – PSL, drawing on the expertise of its faculty members and the activities of its research centers.
These programs include:
- Civil Engineering program modules
- State technical services
- Doctoral programs
- Master’s programs
- Specialized Master’s programs
- Continuing education
This integration of research and teaching ensures high academic standards and a strong connection to current scientific and industrial challenges.
Library
A specialized collection dedicated to research and scientific culture
Located on the first floor of the Couperin building since January 2026, the Fontainebleau Library is dedicated to the disciplines represented on campus. It offers a specialized collection in geosciences, computer science, statistics and imaging, process thermodynamics, and environmental management.
It also houses a collection of popular science literature and specialized journals related to mining and industrial activities.
Access is restricted to students and staff of Mines Paris – PSL, and is available by appointment for external researchers.

Food Service
A cafeteria area

The campus has a cafeteria open to students and staff, offering a variety of options (hot meals, beverages, etc.) for lunch and breaks.
Campus Life
A vibrant hub where scientific outreach meets educational initiatives
The Fontainebleau campus organizes numerous outreach initiatives aimed at engaging diverse audiences, which help disseminate knowledge and strengthen the campus’s ties to the local community, including:
- Cordées de la réussite: field trips and workshops for middle and high school students from schools in southern Seine-et-Marne
- Art History Festival (INHA): hosting events as part of the Festival’s Spring University
- Science Festival: exhibitions and tours offered by research centers
- Fablab Moebius: workshops, coworking, and access to digital fabrication machines
- Café des Sciences: popular science lectures open to the public
- Summer Camp: a week-long scientific and technical immersion program for middle school students focused on digital fabrication, robotics, and programming
