Ecological transition Science and society Video interview
Published on 18 December 2025
How can we combine science, social justice, and ecological transition in the face of the challenges of the 21st century?

As part of the “Décider” lecture series, Mines Paris – PSL and Mines Paris Alumni welcomed Marine Tondelier, national secretary of Les Écologistes and a leading figure in the Nouveau Front Populaire. Held in the School’s library, this conference gave rise to a discussion with Cécile Schwartz, lecturer and researcher at ISIGE Mines Paris-PSL, and Bastien Lafon, alumnus of the School. Together, they debated the major contemporary issues:

  • the ecological emergency and social justice
  • the role of engineers in the transition
  • international challenges
  • the need for collective action

It was an engaging and forward-looking discussion, calling for the reconciliation of science, politics, and ecology in order to develop public policies that are commensurate with the urgency of global issues.
