Biographie
Tatiana Budtova est une chercheuse spécialisée dans l’étude des matériaux biosourcés et des aérogels à base de polysaccharides. Ses travaux se concentrent sur la relation entre la structure et les propriétés des hydrogels, aérogels et cryogels, en explorant des procédés de fabrication durables et innovants. Elle a contribué à l’avancement des connaissances sur la gélification, la réticulation ionique et les méthodes de séchage (supercritique, lyophilisation ou évaporation sous vide) pour optimiser les propriétés physiques et fonctionnelles de ces matériaux. Ses recherches couvrent également l’upcycling de déchets agroalimentaires ou textiles en matériaux poreux à haute valeur ajoutée, ainsi que leurs applications dans des domaines tels que l’isolation thermique, la libération contrôlée de principes actifs ou l’ingénierie biomédicale. L’expertise de Tatiana Budtova s’étend à l’influence des paramètres de traitement sur la morphologie, la densité, la surface spécifique et les performances mécaniques des matériaux poreux, tout en intégrant des principes d’économie circulaire et de durabilité.

Enseignements
Sciences et génie des matériaux (SGM) option
La 2e année : découvrir, observer, expérimenter Les deux semaines d'option sont consacrées à un mini-projet par binôme, dans un des deux laboratoires de l'Ecole (Centre des Matériaux à Evry ou Centre de Mise en Forme des Matériaux à Sophia-Antipolis, soit plus de 70 enseignants-chercheurs en appui à l'option). Les sujets tournent autour d'un projet industriel précis. L'accent est mis sur la découverte de phénomènes physiques, chimiques, mécaniques... et sur leur quantification. Un rapport détaillé et une soutenance orale permettent aux élèves, non seulement de se former aux techniques de communication, mais surtout de se former "les uns par les autres". Quelques sujets : expertise de la défaillance d'un frein ferroviaire, expertise de non-conformité de joints métalliques, soudage (essais instrumentés et modélisation numérique), étude des mécanismes de formation d'une mousse pour siège automobile, formation d'aérogels pour super-isolants ou applications biomédicales... La 3e année : comprendre, savoir choisir, optimiser Les deux temps forts de la troisième année sont le mois d'option (dès la rentrée) et le projet personnel qui occupe tout le reste du temps consacré à l'option. Le mois d'option : "Matériaux et ingénieurs" dans un secteur industriel donné. Le mois d'option est consacré à l'ingénierie des matériaux et s'articule autour d'un secteur industriel précis (2004 et 2005 : l'automobile ; 2006 et 2007 : l'aéronautique, 2008 et 2009 : le bâtiment, 2010 et 2011 : l'énergie, 2012 et 2013 : la santé, 2014 et 2015 : le spatial). Les multiples activités permettent une formation active et la constitution d'un groupe homogène, riche des origines et des personnalités diverses des élèves et des enseignants : visites industrielles : élaboration, transformation et utilisation des matériaux dans le domaine choisi ; quelques conférences données par des experts industriels ; mini-projets de "Découverte Industrielle" : 5 jours par groupes de 2 à 4 élèves, sur site industriel, encadrés par des ingénieurs sur place, sur un problème d'ingénierie ; un rapport écrit (note interne à l'entreprise) et une restitution orale permettent aux différents groupes de partager savoirs et expériences acquis sur le terrain ; quelques "cours", en fait des séances de préparation des visites et des séances de "debriefing" sous forme de questions-réponses aux enseignants, à propos des conférences et des visites industrielles. Le travail d'option : mettre en pratique méthodes et connaissances pour résoudre un problème industriel. Les travaux d'option, individuels, forment la colonne vertébrale de la troisième année. Définis dès le mois d'octobre, en accord avec les desiderata de chaque élève, ils portent sur un problème industriel bien identifié. D'une durée d'au moins 4 mois (total de 8 mois pour les polytechniciens en "voie spécialisée"), ils se déroulent sur site industriel, avec un double tutorat : les ingénieurs de l'entreprise d'une part et un enseignant-chercheur d'un des deux laboratoires "Matériaux" de l'Ecole d'autre part. L'accent est mis sur la compréhension des phénomènes et sur la résolution du problème pratique posé. Quelques sujets d'option représentatifs traités ces dernières années : choix d'un matériau pour une pièce de Formule 1 automobile (Renault, Viry-Châtillon) modélisation des couches minces déposées sur un verre (Saint-Gobain, Thourotte) sélection et dimensionnement d'une mousse antichoc (SNCF, Le Mans) faisabilité du revêtement de pistons par projection plasma (Toyota, Evry - Belgique - Japon) procédé innovant de coulée continue d'acier (Vallourec, Aulnoye-Aymeries / Brésil) optimisation du procédé d'injection de polymère renforcé de fibres (Bosch, Allemagne) analyse de verres dorés émaillés du Moyen-Age (Laboratoire des Musées de France, Paris) prédiction des propriétés à rupture d'aciers pour gazoducs (ArcelorMittal, Gand, Belgique). critère d'acceptabilité de défauts de forge (PSA, La Garenne-Colombes) défauts de mise en peinture des pièces de carrosserie plastique automobile (Mécaplast, Monaco) soudage de pièces en superalliage pour lanceurs spatiaux (Snecma, Vernon) amélioration du contrôle non destructif d'éléments de centrales électriques (EDF, Saint-Denis) décontamination de bétons utilisés en génie civil pour les centrales nucléaires (Bouygues, St-Quentin / CEA, Marcoule) amélioration de la fabrication de pièces en composite pour aéronautique (Dassault, Argenteuil) choix de matériaux pour sondes endoscopiques avec microcope intégré (Mauna Kea Technologies, Paris) Particularités de l'option : Du concret ! L'option comporte très peu de cours à proprement parler : les savoirs et compétences sont acquis dans les cours proposés à tous les élèves (tronc commun, enseignements spécialisés) et surtout par le partage des expériences vécues par chacun sur le terrain. Il s'agit d'expérimenter par soi-même et en équipe (double tutorat ingénieur industriel + enseignant-chercheur). Pratique intensive du travail en groupe La diversité et le nombre des optionnaires permet à chacun d'apprendre aux autres et par les autres. C'est un entraînement efficace aux méthodes d'auto-formation que pratiquera l'ingénieur pendant toute sa carrière pour rester un acteur majeur dans son domaine de compétences et maîtriser son évolution professionnelle. Pluridisciplinarité Le domaine des matériaux est à l'intersection entre des disciplines telles que la physique, la chimie, la mécanique, les mathématiques appliquées et la modélisation numérique. Les travaux d'option comportent souvent une part expérimentale et une part de modélisation, qui permettent une formation équilibrée à la culture des matériaux. L'option s'intéresse aussi bien aux céramiques, aux "plastiques", aux métaux et alliages... qu'aux objets anciens (archéologie) ou aux innovations les plus récentes (aciers "biologiques", aérogels biosourcés ou non...).
