Edi Assoumou est un chercheur spécialisé dans l’analyse des systèmes énergétiques et leur transition vers des modèles durables. Ses travaux portent principalement sur l’évaluation environnementale des infrastructures numériques, notamment les data centers et leur consommation énergétique liée aux technologies d’intelligence artificielle (IA). Il explore les impacts carbone de ces systèmes via des approches d’analyse du cycle de vie (ACV), en intégrant des dimensions techniques, économiques et territoriales. Ses recherches s’étendent également à la modélisation prospective des systèmes énergétiques, avec un focus sur l’intégration des énergies renouvelables, la décarbonation des mix électriques et les enjeux géopolitiques liés aux échanges d’hydrogène vert entre l’Europe et l’Afrique du Nord. Utilisant des outils comme les modèles TIMES et eTIMES, il analyse les trajectoires optimales pour atteindre la neutralité carbone, tout en considérant les contraintes techniques, spatiales et socio-économiques.
