On May 4th, students from the EnvIM World post-Master program had the opportunity to explore the ecological transition initiatives underway in the city of Ris-Orangis, guided by Gil Melin, Deputy Mayor in charge of the Eco-Polis and participatory democracy, and President of the Orme Pomponne Family Gardens.

The visit began with a comprehensive overview of the city, its strategic projects, and the Climate-Air-Energy policy presented by Mr. Melin. This introduction set the stage for a guided tour that immersed students in the practical implementation of sustainable development policies at the local level.

On 4 May 4th, students of the EnvIM World post-Master, discovered the projects developed for the ecological transition of Ris-Orangis with Gil Melin, Deputy Mayor in charge of the Eco-Polis and participative democracy, President of the familly gardens of l’Orme Pomponne.

After a general presentation of the city, its projects and an overview of the city’s Climate – Air – Energy policy, drawn up by Gil Melin, the students were offered a tour of the city.

Wandering in the city with Mr Melin and Axel OMS, helped them to comprehend the issues at stake regarding the policy implementation ont the field, the organization, financial aspects and coordination of the many projects with the citizens and involved stakeholders :

– The Family Gardens of the Orme Pomponne, an area of 6 Ha – The Ecoquartier des Docks de Ris, one of the starting projects for the ecological awareness of the city of Ris-Orangis – The « Berges de Seine », the project of a marina, river shuttle and swimming area – The third place « L’Attribut », role for social networks, at the very core of the city – The deep geothermal boreholes, plant, which supply the city’s urban heating network – Urban agriculture, the challenges of soil preservation

The students discovered all the actions carried out in favour of biodiversity, wastelands and re-naturalisation of soils, and the studies and actions towards Zero Net Artificialization, within the framework of the Climate and Resilience Act of 2021.
