By decoupling value from material ownership, this approach contributes to reducing resource consumption, minimizing waste through reduction and reuse, and improving the durability and overall quality of products.

As part of the Functional Economy project, three site visits were organized for EnvIM students, offering a first-hand look at innovative practices and operational activities in various sectors:

France Plastique Recyclage – PAPREC Group

Recyc-Matelas Europe

Refactory – Renault

Located on the banks of the Seine, this state-of-the-art facility gives a second life to over one billion plastic bottles each year, recycling approximately 45,000 tonnes of PET waste annually. After being collected, blue PET bottles are sorted again to remove labels and caps. The material is then shredded, washed, melted, and filtered to eliminate impurities.

The resulting granules are further purified for seven hours in a vacuum at 200°C to meet food-grade quality standards. These recycled materials are then sold back to manufacturers to produce new bottles, closing the loop in the plastic lifecycle.

As the leading mattress recycler in France, Recyc-Matelas Europe transforms bulky waste into valuable raw materials. By dismantling and sorting used mattresses, the company recovers nearly 30,000 tonnes of materials annually for reuse in other industries.

Since 2013, the company has also made social inclusion a core mission, prioritizing the employment of individuals facing barriers to the job market. Through tailored support programs, Recyc-Matelas offers professional training and integration pathways for sustainable employability.

Located in Flins, the Renault Refactory is the first industrial site in Europe fully dedicated to circular economy initiatives in mobility. The facility brings together innovative operations including vehicle repair, retrofitting to low-carbon energy sources, battery reconditioning, and more.

By extending the lifecycle of vehicles and components, the Refactory contributes to reducing environmental impact and advancing sustainable, circular mobility solutions.

[15
19
post-2560","actualites","type-actualites","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry

France Plastique Recyclage – PAPREC Group
