This process not only helps reduce waste but also contributes to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the goals of sustainable development and ecological transition.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"812\" data-end=\"860\"><strong data-start=\"812\" data-end=\"860\">Methanization to recover local organic waste<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"1188\">As part of their module on Agroecology, the students of the EnvIM advanced master&rsquo;s program had the opportunity to visit the <strong data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"1019\">Equimeth Methanization Plant<\/strong> in the Commune de Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne. This visit allowed the students to explore firsthand the innovative methods employed at this facility to manage organic waste.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4531 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isige.minesparis.psl.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-13-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Methanization to recover local organic waste\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"1190\" data-end=\"1691\">The Equimeth plant plays a vital role in the local bioeconomy by recycling an impressive 25,000 tonnes of organic waste annually. The plant focuses on producing both <strong data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1399\">solid and liquid biological fertilizers<\/strong>, which are then used to enrich the soil and support sustainable agricultural practices. The waste processed at the facility predominantly consists of unused crops, vegetation, and food products, which are sourced from local producers situated within approximately 20 kilometers of the plant.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1190\" data-end=\"1691\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4532 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isige.minesparis.psl.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-13-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Methanization to recover local organic waste\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"1693\" data-end=\"2202\">Through the methanization process, organic waste is transformed into <strong data-start=\"1762\" data-end=\"1772\">biogas<\/strong>, which can be harnessed to produce renewable energy. This process not only provides an efficient means of waste disposal but also contributes to the local energy grid, helping to power the surrounding communities sustainably. Additionally, the biological fertilizers produced are an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic fertilizers, supporting soil health and reducing the environmental impact of conventional farming practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2581\">The visit to Equimeth provided valuable insights into how local resources can be transformed into energy and fertilizers, promoting a circular economy that benefits both the environment and the local community. It highlighted the importance of such facilities in the <strong data-start=\"2471\" data-end=\"2485\">bioeconomy<\/strong>, as they create sustainable solutions for waste management, energy production, and agriculture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"2583\" data-end=\"3073\">We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Equimeth team for their hospitality and for providing such a comprehensive and insightful tour. The experience was incredibly enriching for our students, allowing them to better understand the role of methanization plants in advancing ecological and sustainable practices within the local context.
