Olivier Bomsel
Professor of Economics Mines Paris – PSL, CEDP

Professor of Economics at Mines Paris – PSL and Director of the Chair of Media and Brand Economics. His work focuses on the impact of institutions, particularly property rights, on the organization of industry and markets in a wide range of fields: mining, metallurgy, automotive, luxury brands, space, telecommunications, media, etc.
A civil engineer from Mines (St Etienne, 1980), he joined the Ecole des Mines de Paris and, in 1986, defended a thesis in economics on the “Economic Dynamics of Mining Countries.” From 1982 to 1997, his research was based on international audits of large mining and metallurgical companies. Between 1990 and 1997, he led the CERNA research team on post-socialism and participated in numerous industrial restructurings in Central Europe and Russia.
In 1998, he began CEDP’s research on the digital economy. Since 2009, he has headed the Chair of Media and Brand Economics, which focuses on the institutional, technical, and economic dimensions of media ecosystems.
