His field is the analysis of firm size, market power, competition, and public policies at different levels of supply chains. To that end, he uses so called “Structural Models of Empirical IO”, which allow causal inference using economic theory, statistics, and big data.
Some of his research questions are: Which public policy is most effective to compensate consumers for a loss in their purchasing power? How much of the cost increases (e.g., energy prices or minimum wages) do retailers pass-on to consumers in form of prices and variety? How do firm size and illegal cartels affect prices and variety (at different levels of the supply chain)?
