A new milestone for the PEPITe Chair: Its Partner Council is now officially installed, marking a decisive step in bringing together researchers, public authorities, and economic actors around shared challenges.

  1. Why the PEPITe Chair?

The PEPITe Chair was created to address two urgent and interconnected challenges: ecological transition and industrial renewal. These transitions cannot be considered in isolation; they require territorial strategies that mobilize local resources, skills, and governance.

  • Ecological transition demands decarbonization, circular economy models, and the deployment of green technologies—all while ensuring social and economic justice.
  • Industrial renewal is essential to preserve economic sovereignty, create high-value jobs, and reduce dependencies in strategic sectors.

The Chair’s mission is to bridge the gap between research and action, providing decision-makers with the tools they need to design and implement effective policies.

  1. Introducing its work programme

The PEPITe Chair’s work is organized around four core research axes, designed to generate actionable insights:

Research Axis Key Focus Example Projects
Territorial ecological transitions Analyzing local dynamics in renewable energy, circular economy, and industrial ecology. Mapping transition pathways, evaluating local policies for energy sobriety.
Industry and productive bifurcations Studying how business networks and clusters drive green innovation. Assessing synergies between SMEs and large groups to develop low-carbon technologies.
Geography of innovation Identifying regions with the highest potential for green innovation. Evaluating the innovation potential of industrial basins, analyzing local ecosystems.
Financing the ecological transition Exploring funding mechanisms (public-private partnerships, public subsidies, targetted fundings) to mobilize capital for local projects. Studying incentives to attract investment in renewable energy and circular economy.

The Chair also produces policy briefs, training programs, and territorial diagnostics, ensuring that research translates into practical solutions for territories, businesses, and public authorities.

  1. A unique positioning at the intersection of research and public action

What sets the PEPITe Chair apart is its commitment to science with and for society:

  • Interdisciplinary approach: Combining industrial economics, economic geography, political science, and social sciences to offer holistic solutions.
  • Operational ambition: Every study, report, or tool is designed to be directly usable by decision-makers, businesses, and local authorities.
  • Partnership-driven: The Chair brings together academia, public institutions, and private actors to co-build strategies that respond to real-world challenges.

By fostering dialogue between researchers, policymakers, and economic actors, the PEPITe Chair aims to be a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive territorial development.

Get involved: Partners benefit from privileged access to the Chair’s expertise, participation in collaborative projects, and visibility for their commitment to just ecological and industrial transition.
